The Western Lakes and Mountain Region of Maine is famous for its
four seasons of outdoor recreational attractions and has some
of Maine's highest peaks in the Bigelow Range and Mahoosuc
Mountains. Dotted with hundreds of glacial lakes, it offers some
of the state's largest, including Sebago Lake, Flagstaff Lake, and
the Rangeley Lakes Chain, which encompasses over 110 lakes
and ponds.
Outdoor activities are first class and feature fishing, canoeing,
kayaking, camping, biking, and hiking along the Appalachian
Trail during the warmer months. Play a round of golf, or find the
best places to view the fall foliage. Hunting, cross country and
alpine skiing, and snowmobiling are popular attractions in the
winter months.
The wildlife can't be beat, you may discover a moose, hear loons
singing, or even an occasional bobcat. But if you do encounter
some of Maine's wonderful wildlife, please be cautious, do not
feed the wildlife and please be respectful, as you are entering
their front yards.
